El-Marg El-Sherkia, is an informal community in Cairo, had six streets that didn’t get potable
water continuously. The residents used to store water in plastic tanks during the lacking period of water, which causes health problems in addition to the extra effort for that task.
BLESS team helped the community in its
communication with the local council and to act on this problem. The local committee members gathered contributions from the households (each family contributed 25 EGP and a total amount of 10,000 EGP was collected) for digging works. Through this action, a new potable water line was connected, which was 8 inches in diameter (instead of the earlier one which was 1.5 inches in diameter) to serve these six streets benefiting 400 families.
