Sudanese service

“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.”  Psalm 9:9

On April 15, 2023, an armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, which led to the death and injury of thousands of Sudanese, and forced hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes and evacuate to nearby neighbouring countries, especially Egypt who is doing the best efforts to receive and protect Sudanese refugees who are in dire need of safety and help.

Accordingly, the Coptic Orthodox Church continuously prays for peace and tranquility to prevail in the world and embrace the beloved Sudanese residing in Sudan, Egypt, or everywhere worldwide.

Under the patronage and guidance of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and along with the direct supervision of His Grace Bishop Yolios, The Bishopric of Public, Ecumenical, and Social Services, “BLESS”, established a social service office to look after Sudanese refugees and assess their humanitarian needs to help them stabilize their living situations during the current circumstances.

Based on the humanitarian approach adopted by BLESS since its foundation in 1962 and Believing in the right of every human being to work, housing, education, and other basic human needs, this office, which employs more than twenty staff members and specialists in the various fields of social welfare and development issues, offers the following services:

1- Assigning phone numbers (01281343275) and (01281343239) to respond to inquiries from Sudanese refugees.

2- Receiving phones from 8 am until 9 pm to answer Sudanese refugees' inquiries and guide them through the various services provided.

3- Interviewing and recording the data of the Sudanese refugees who arrived from Sudan since the beginning of the crisis.

4- Applying the needs assessment tool for Sudanese refugees to determine their level of vulnerability, and accordingly, the assistance and support needed to provide them with a decent life in Egypt.

5- Assisting Sudanese refugees by providing immediate basic human needs such as food, clothing, and medication.

6- Guiding all Sudanese refugees in finding decent job opportunities through the employment service office or vocational training.

7- Direct all Sudanese refugees in Egypt to find suitable, temporary housing options until their conditions will be improved.

8- Directing students in the different educational stages to the relevant appropriate education system.

We raise our hearts to our good and compassionate God, who manages the affairs of all our lives and fulfils all our needs, and we ask Him to lift this anguish from our loved ones in Sudan so that they return safely and honourably to their homes.

All are invited to obtain the blesses of this service by providing help and support.
