The Adult Education Program focuses specifically on offering educational services to adults and older community members who may have never finished school, struggled with illiteracy, or are simply looking to further their education.
The primary objective of the Adult Education Program is to raise the overall academic standard of all members of targeted communities and to ensure they have access to a decent education.
There are now 109 active trained local cadres
Two adult education supervisors were nominated to attend the “Global Curriculum
for Adult Education” training program at the regional headquarters of UNESCO in Cairo.
- The program team participated in the regional session in Lebanon (Arab House for Adult Education & Development) to educate about recent developments in teaching and learning in December 2022. They then shared their knowledge with the other team
members.
Mrs. Sohair Gerges is a housewife, mother of two, who lives in Cairo, and was raised in the Sohag governorate in Upper Egypt. She did not attend school and was not able to read and write. In her youth, she had taken some literacy classes at Sohag, but her elder brother opposed that she continues her education. Mrs. Sohair attended the public meeting about the importance of education conducted by BLESS. She took the decision to participate in the literacy class and she now obtains her official certificate. She is happy that she can follow up with her children's schoolwork and she gratefully worked as secretary and has increased her family income.
